Project Scope:
Miller was contracted to form and pour various site components for a new raw coal and clean coal preparation plant. The scope of the project included the construction of stack tubes, tunnels, conveyor belt lines, supply sheds, thickener tanks, elevated decks, maintenance pads, train load-outs, and more. Over the course of the project, 13,000 cubic yards of concrete were poured and 2,737,009 pounds of rebar were placed and tied. In total, more than 60 individual components were designed, fabricated, and executed.
Challenges and Accomplishments:
The significant volume of concrete required for the project presented a unique challenge. To meet the daily demands and large pour requirements, Miller set up its own concrete mixing plant, ensuring that concrete could be produced and delivered directly to the site without relying on third-party suppliers. The remote location of the project, combined with weather-related delays, added additional complexity. Finding reliable suppliers and securing accommodations for the crew were key logistical hurdles that were successfully navigated. Despite these challenges, MILLER delivered the project on time and to specification, ensuring that the preparation plant had the infrastructure needed for ongoing operational success.

Miller was contracted to form and pour a limestone processing highwall, conveyor belts, and miscellaneous support pads for a production expansion at an active limestone quarry. The project involved building the first terrace on top of a 35-foot tall sheer rock face cliff, with various concrete foundations and structural components designed to support the plant’s infrastructure.
Challenges and Accomplishments:
The project’s foundation work posed unique challenges due to its location on solid rock. Blasting was required to trench for electrical conduit and footer placement. The highwall portion of the foundation was poured using a one-sided form, encapsulating the existing rock face as the structure was built upwards. As the highwall rose, new rock faces were exposed, requiring adjustments to the design. To manage this, Miller worked closely with project engineers, keeping constant communication to update site conditions and rework designs as necessary. Despite these challenges, the project proceeded smoothly, with adjustments made in real time to ensure the integrity of the structure.
